How to Get Virtual Care

Adult residents (ages 18+) of Western North Carolina can see a UNC Health primary care provider for mild symptoms without an appointment through UNC Health Virtual Care Now free of charge for those impacted by Hurricane Helene. Using your camera- and microphone-enabled phone, tablet or computer, you can access convenient, secure and flexible care when you need it. Patients can get in line for Virtual Care Now through My UNC Chart. If you do not have a My UNC Chart account, you can easily get one when you get in line. Virtual services are available 6 AM – 10 PM, 7 days per week.

When you’re a hospital patient at UNC Health Caldwell, your doctor may recommend acute rehabilitation services to help you recover. The inpatient occupational, physical, and speech services you receive depends on your condition.

During your short hospital stay, experienced therapists at UNC Health Caldwell will help you improve your strength and increase your activity level.

Acute Care Services

Receive a wide range of services and therapy for your recovery at UNC Health Caldwell. Count on an evaluation from our therapists to determine your needs. Expect education and training for you and your caregiver about the healing process. Learn about the balanced approach we take to improving your skills, movement, and speech. After your evaluation, your individual care plan may include one or more of the following:

  • Physical therapy
    • Therapeutic exercises and activities to improve strength
    • Training for:
      • Balance
      • Rolling or sitting up in bed
      • Standing and walking with a walker or cane
      • Transfer, or getting up from a sitting position, moving between surfaces, getting in and out of a car
    • Speech therapy
      • Evaluations of:
        • Speech and sound production
        • Language and/or cognitive functions
      • Modified barium swallow study
      • Treatment for speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders
