How to Get Virtual Care

Adult residents (ages 18+) of Western North Carolina can see a UNC Health primary care provider for mild symptoms without an appointment through UNC Health Virtual Care Now free of charge for those impacted by Hurricane Helene. Using your camera- and microphone-enabled phone, tablet or computer, you can access convenient, secure and flexible care when you need it. Patients can get in line for Virtual Care Now through My UNC Chart. If you do not have a My UNC Chart account, you can easily get one when you get in line. Virtual services are available 6 AM – 10 PM, 7 days per week.

Volunteer Opportunities

Take advantage of the opportunity to assist patients, visitors, and staff with your time and talent.  Bilingual volunteers are welcome.  Based upon your experiences and interest, you may be able to volunteer in one of the following areas:

  • Administrative and clerical help - assist departments and clinics by answering phones, scanning documents, data entry, copying, shredding, special projects, and more
  • Admission and registration – help staff check-in patients and visitors for appointments and procedures
  • First Impressions Ambassador – round according to an established plan and schedule assisting with wayfinding, wheelchair, and kiosk rounding
  • Gift Shop – assist with the operation of the hospital gift shop in various ways
  • Golf Cart Courtesy Shuttle – transport patients, families and visitors to their destination
  • Laboratory Assistant – assist staff in the hospital laboratory services in various ways
  • Main Entrance Ambassador – serve as a greeter/first impression ambassador and escorting patients and families to their destination within the facility
  • Patient Experience – provide patient care and comfort to patients who request a visit
  • Pet Therapy – if your dog is registered with Therapy Dogs International or Pet Partners, see how your pet can make a difference as a volunteer visitor providing comfort to patients and families
  • Surgery Center Waiting – serve as a liaison between staff and visitors or families of patients
  • Surgical Services – assist with cleaning and restocking of patient care areas and other appropriate tasks
  • Voluncheers – assist in making baby quilts for gift shop and caps, teddy bears, and other hand-made items for patients.
  • Waiting Room Services – serve as a liaison between staff and visitors of families and patients
