UNC Health Care Compliance Office
Jeri Williams, Chief Audit & Compliance Officer
We are Committed to a Culture of Compliance
Compliance is the obligation to act ethically and in accordance with the Code of Conduct, applicable UNC Health and entity-level policies, and relevant laws, rules, and regulations. Everyone working with UNC Health (including employees, physicians, contractors, vendors and volunteers) is accountable for compliance results. Compliant behavior is expected at all times in all UNC Health facilities.
You can help foster a culture of compliance by always abiding by applicable policies, laws and regulations. Your supervisor can help you understand the expectations for your work area. If you have doubts about whether something is compliant, speak up and ask your supervisor, department leader or Compliance Office for clarification. Promptly report concerns to your supervisor, the Compliance Office or the Compliance Hotline.
Our Compliance Program has Seven Elements:
Employees may also review the Hospital Compliance Program Policy and Physician Compliance Program Policy in PolicyStat.
Compliance Program Oversight
The UNC Health Compliance Program is authorized and overseen by the Finance, Audit, and Compliance Committee of the UNC Health Board of Directors. Additionally, Network Entity Boards of Directors may oversee implementation of the Compliance Program at the entity-level.
The Compliance Program is administered by the Compliance Office, led by the Chief Compliance Officer. Executive Directors, entity-level Compliance Officers (or Assistant Directors), and Compliance staff support the Chief Compliance Officer and are responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Compliance Program.
The Compliance Program receives support from Executive Leadership, Committees, and applicable Roundtables.
The Compliance Office does not make operational decisions, but is available to advise and assist with applicable policies, rules, and regulations.
