The William E. Stevens Jr. Cancer Care Center opened its doors in 1993. Named in memory of Bill Stevens, a community leader and former hospital board chairman, this medical oncology and chemotherapy clinic addressed the issue of a community in times of crisis.
Our cancer care program exemplifies excellence in medical and surgical oncology and allows patients access to national clinical trials.
For information on current clinical trials visit Carolina Oncology Specialists. As result of our quality cancer care program, Caldwell Memorial Hospital was able to collaborate with the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center to expand our services to include radiation oncology and access to additional national clinical trials. In 2003, Caldwell Memorial Hospital was designated an Approved Community Hospital Cancer Program by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Of all the hospitals that treat cancer, only 25% qualify for this designation.
Since 1972, the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has been recognized by the National Cancer Institute as a national leader in cancer care, offering the latest technologies and treatments and access to innovative cancer clinical trials to cancer patients throughout the region.
