Caldwell Memorial Hospital congratulates Dr. George Nichols for receiving the Cancer Liaison Physician Outstanding Performance Award from the Commission on Cancer. In a letter to Dr. Nichols, Committee on Cancer Liaison Chairman Jon M. Greif, DO, FACS, wrote that Nichols was nominated because he "exhibited outstanding leadership and guidance as a physician champion in (Caldwell Memorial Hospital's) cancer program." Grief continued, "This Award recognizes physicians who go above and beyond expectations to improve and provide direction to their cancer program. You have exhibited qualities that the Commission deems critical to facilities' success in the CoC Approvals Program and providing high-quality cancer care."
Nichols is one of only 55 physicians nationwide who achieved this designation. "I am honored because the people I work with nominated me for this award," he said. "I consider this as holding the award for the entire cancer program at Caldwell Memorial. We have better than or equal to the best cancer care in the world here, and we have a fabulous outreach to the community."
The comprehensive cancer program at Caldwell Memorial Hospital is an Approved Community Hospital Cancer Program with Commendation as designated by the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer. The program offers medical, radiation, and surgical oncology, advanced diagnostics and screenings, and support groups for patients as well as their family members and friends. “We are glad to have what is here, and we are grateful for the support of our community in donations of both time and financial support which help to make all of this possible," said Nichols. "Hospitals and doctors can't achieve anything by themselves without community support, and our community supports this program."
