‘The Creative Mind’ On Exhibit in Lenoir
National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s traveling exhibit, “The Creative Mind” which features African American pioneers in medicine, mathematics and engineering, is on display at Caldwell Memorial Hospital, a division of UNC Health Care.
“The Creative Mind” exhibit was created by the Academies’ African American History Program. It made its debut at the Koshland Science Museum of the NAS in Washington, DC, and the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia in 2012. “The Creative Mind” highlights the careers and achievements of the African American scientists featured in the display.
UNC School of Medicine Executive Dean Wesley Burks, MD, first saw the exhibit while he was at the NAS building for a medical conference. He inquired as to whether “The Creative Mind” display could be loaned to universities and medical institutions in hopes of bringing it to UNC. Burks said the School of Medicine has several initiatives underway to increase diversity among the student body and faculty.
“The Creative Mind” will be on display at Caldwell Memorial Hospital until November 28, 2016 and is free to the public.
